Succedent houses are the next in line to the Angular houses in terms of power and impact on the person through their ascendant chart. Planets placed in the succedent houses are often next-in-line to the extent of beneficial effects they can confer upon the native. Succedent houses are less powerful than angular houses, but stronger than cadent houses still.

The 2nd House, 5th House, 8th House, and the 11th House are known as the succedent houses, because they succeed the angular houses. The 2nd house succeeds the 1st house, 5th house succeeds the 4th house, 8th house succeeds the 7th house, and the 11th house succeeds the 10th house.

  1. Second House – the second house of the ascendant chart is referred to as the Dhana Bhava or the house of gains. It represents the amount of money a person would earn by themselves (as in, self-earned wealth) as well as their connection to the family in terms of communication and relations with the family members.
  2. Fifth House – the fifth house is referred to as the Putra Bhava or the house of progeny or children. Aside from children, the house also governs speculative investments and creativity as well as creative pursuits. A strong fifth house means that the person is likely to be quite creative in their expression of emotions and ideas. It also controls non-marital relationships, such as those of girlfriend and boyfriend which ultimately (hopefully) lead to love marriages as well as sexual pleasures.
  3. Eighth House – the eighth house governs longevity and is therefore referred to as the Aayu Bhava; the condition of this house decides how long the person is expected to live. It also controls hidden things such as hidden relationships or partners, affairs, occult sciences and mystical fields of education such as Vedic astrology, etc. The Aayu Bhava is also associated with sudden events including accidents and even death. The eight house is also a Trika house, which means it is a malefic house, and therefore, nearly any planet in this house will most likely give bad results or reduced good results, even if it is Jupiter, which is the most powerful benefic of all although Jupiter can largely reduce the ill-effects of the 8th house just by its presence there.
  4. Eleventh House – the eleventh house is referred to as Labha Bhava, which translates to the house of profits or gains. The Labha Bhava governs profits, gains, connections, relations with friends, and more. If this is strong, then the person will likely find others of their mentality easily, thereby helping to have a decent social life while also enjoying materialistic pleasures.
