If the Sun is placed in the ascendant house in its own sign or friendly sign or exaltation sign, it is considered to be an extremely auspicious placement. The Sun is the natural Atmakaraka (significator of the soul), and therefore, its natural place is the 1st house. In the ascendant house or first house, the Sun rules like a king would rule from his throne.
Sun in the first house gives excellent commanding power to a person and he/she is well-received by others wherever he/she goes. Such individuals have authority and commanding power and others acknowledge their capabilities. They do not give up easily and will bravely face the adversities of life.
Sun in this house also gives good vitality and longevity to the ascendant unless conjunct with a malefic planet and/or weakly placed. The person is also likely to gain money through inheritance. He/she would also have good intelligence and be learned in many arts.
However, the native may suffer from ophthalmologic (eye-related) diseases and bilious problems. Some conditions to remember here are:

- Sun is aspected by benefic planets – the person will have good knowledge and he will be well-learned in many arts and areas of knowledge.

- Sun in own sign (Leo) or Leo Navamsa – the native will enjoy good health and may hold some government position or benefit from the government.
- Sun in own sign Vargottama – the person will have a rich life and shall always enjoy a very good financial condition
- Sun in Cancer – the person will have knowledge but suffer due to skin issues
- Sun in Virgo – the person may primarily have daughters after marriage
