The 12^th house of the ascendant (Lagna) chart primarily represents the opposite of whatever the 11^th house of the chart represents. The 12^th house represents losses, expenditure, isolation, imprisonment, spirituality, subconsciousness, hidden thoughts, hidden enemies, hospitalization, law suits, sexual relations – including both inside marriage as well as those outside marriage, etc.

Given the nature of things the 12^th house represents, it is easy to identify that the Moon’s placement in the 12^th house of the ascendant (Lagna) chart is not the most optimal one.

Moon is the significator of the mind, so when in the 12^th house, the Moon will end up causing expenditure of the native due to their mind or mental issues (like depression). Additionally, the person may also end up isolating themselves due to their health issues and/or suffer hospitalization, too.

Furthermore, the Moon being in the 12^th house will also cause the person to have hidden enemies and the Moon, being a benefic, will not be able to do much to protect the native from them unless She is either (1) exalted, or (2) in Her own sign, or (3) conjunct with a benefic planet, or (4) aspected by a benefic planet.

Also, the person may have sexual weakness, meaning he/she will want to engage in sexual acts but will not be able to perform much due to the lack of vitality or sexual energy. To add to this, his/her wealth generation would be very slow because there would be constant expenses.

Some points to consider here are:

1. Moon in Her own sign (Cancer) or in exaltation (Taurus) – Nearly all of those negatives will turn positive if Moon is exalted in the 12^th house or is placed in Her own sign. However, there will still be expenditure, but it will be on good accounts or good causes such as the person donating money to the poor or towards philanthropic causes.
2. Moon in friendly sign – If the Moon is placed in a friendly sign in the 12^th house, some of the negatives will be reduced.

Moon afflicted – If Moon is afflicted by a malefic such as Rahu or Ketu, then the person may either suffer imprisonment (if Rahu affects the Moon) due to their misdeeds which the person will commit due to emotional instability, or they will have major threat of hidden enemies who will try to mortally harm the person.
