Effects of Jupiter in the Second House (Dhan Bhava or House of Income)

Jupiter in the 2nd house is a naturally beneficial placement, because Jupiter is the significator of the 2nd house, also known as the Karaka. In Vedic astrology, each house has a significator, which refers to the planet who is expected to best handle its duties. For example, the Sun is the Karaka of the 1st house, which is why it acts as though it is exalted when in the first house irrespective of the zodiac sign it is placed in (with Libra being the only exception as the Sun is debilitated there).

So, similarly, Jupiter is the significator of the 2nd house, so when placed in exaltation, His own sign, or a friendly sign, He will guide the native to earning excellent income and preservation of self-earned wealth, all through righteous or Dharmic means.

However, the person will be a foodie – he/she will love to eat and try new dishes, because the 2nd house also controls the mouth, and the mouth is (usually) used for two things – eating and speaking. So, such a person will also be regarded as a wise individual whenever they speak.

And since the 2nd house also controls relations with the family, including communication between the family members, having a strongly placed Jupiter there will also ensure that the person has excellent relations with his/her family members.

Also, Jupiter when placed well in this house will enable the individual to earn honour as a result of their efforts to earn money, with good relations with the government also being possible if Sun is also placed well in the chart.

The only thing is that while a person with a strong Jupiter in the 2nd house of the Lagna chart will not sin, they will likely fall victim to the sins of others. This is because Jupiter is a Sattvic planet and so such an individual may trust others easily.

Additionally, because Jupiter is also the planet of marriage and marital happiness, the individual will likely have steady growth after marriage given that the person they marry is not incompatible with them astrologically. It is possible that the individual will marry someone who is from a superior position financially and even socially – though the said person will be loyal to them.

Those points are important because Jupiter in the 2nd house also improves communication with the family members – so that is only possible when the individual has good family members.

Furthermore, when Jupiter is strongly placed in the 2nd house, His 7th aspect would be cast upon the 8th house of the native’s chart, thereby increasing the longevity of the native.

However, if Jupiter is debilitated in the 2nd house, the person’s income or wealth thus earned will either be affected or will be through unethical means. The person will also lie to acquire wealth and benefits which will not bode well for him/her.

Some considerations to note here are:

Jupiter in exaltation (Cancer) – if Jupiter is exalted in the 2nd house of the Lagna chart, then it will bestow immense wealth to the individual He/she will also likely have a wealthy family, but the dependency of the native will be far too much on their spouse if the person is a male. In other words, the person will be very obedient to his wife; this is because Jupiter here would ensure sweet communication by the native by making them somewhat of a ‘yes’ man to their spouse. However, this would also be influenced by the impacts of Mars and Mercury’s placements in the person’s chart.

Jupiter in His own sign (Sagittarius or Pisces) – Jupiter in Sagittarius in the 2nd house will bestow all the benefits upon the native; he/she will enjoy excellent wealth earned through ethical or righteous means and have good relations with his/her family. In Pisces, the benefits are further magnified as the person will earn excellent wealth and will be very much focused on earning great fortunes while also very likely coming from a very rich family. Additionally, Jupiter in Pisces in the 2nd house will likely give the person a very rich and influential father due to which the individual will further grow even more in life.

Any negative afflictions to Jupiter in the 2nd house will ruin its righteousness and potentially drive the individual to earn money through illicit means. This holds true especially for the case of Jupiter Rahu conjunction or Rahu Jupiter conjunction wherein Rahu may overpower the righteous power of Jupiter and make the native to consider using shortcuts to earn wealth.
