Effects of the Moon in the Fourth House (Matri Bhava or House of the Mother)

The fourth house is an amazing placement for the Moon, because the 4th house represents the mother of the native or ascendant while the Moon is also the planet that represents the mother of the person. So, in the 4th house, the Moon becomes a Karaka. A Karaka is a planet that is placed in the house it should supposedly be.

So, the 4th house of the Lagna (ascendant) chart represents the health of the mother, her authority in the house, domestic happiness, the kind of residence the person would live in (here, the person is the one whose chart is being analyzed), vehicles or conveyances, fixed assets like real estate properties, agricultural lands, etc.

When the Moon is placed in the 4th house of the Lagna chart, it will mostly give excellent results, and the ability of Moon to do good increases considerably in the 4th house because that is where it is a karaka.

Some pointers to note here are that:

  1. Moon in Cancer – the person shall have very good domestic happiness, meaning the place they will stay in will be a large or at least spacious residence, their relations with their mother will be excellent, and their mother will be the one who is likely to be more respected. Additionally, the person will enjoy very good comforts and luxuries in their home. The native’s mother will be long-lived.
  2. Moon in Taurus – nearly identical benefits to Moon being in Cancer, but the condition of the lord of the 4th house (Venus) also matters here since if that is ill-placed then the exalted Moon may be able to give a lot of benefits and luxuries to the individual, but they may still remain mentally unfulfilled.
  3. Moon conjunct Rahu – Rahu would motivate Moon to seek domestic happiness through lying, deceit, etc., which would mean that the person would try to lie to their parents, family, or spouse for emotional fulfillment.
  4. Moon conjunct Ketu – this is a tricky combination, because it depends on 2 things, including the relation of Ketu with the zodiac sign of the 4th house. If Ketu is placed with Moon in a sign where it is considered exalted or friendly such as Sagittarius or Scorpio, then Ketu will help create a spiritual or religious environment in the house and the Moon’s benefits would still be enjoyed by the native, meaning that the person would live in a spacious house but the native’s mother would be very religious and spiritual, and so would the native be, too. However, if Ketu is placed in an enemy sign where it does not or will not perform well (such as Taurus, because Taurus is ruled by Venus who focuses on materialism while Ketu is about spirituality and detachment), then the person stands to suffer material losses due to Ketu making Moon become detached from everything, including their material possessions. Note that even Moon is exalted in Taurus, but Ketu is considered to be more powerful than Moon given that it can eclipse Moon as per the scriptures, though this is debatable.
  5. Moon conjunct Mars or Jupiter – once more, Chandra Mangal Yoga (Moon and Mars) or Gajakesari Yoga (Moon and Jupiter) will be formed, which will provide the native with excellent fixed assets such as their residence, vehicles as well as other material comforts that one can expect.

If the Moon is afflicted, the native’s mother’s health will be badly affected and/or the person’s domestic happiness will be affected. There may be more frequent arguments or fights taking place in the house.

After marriage, if the Moon is well-placed in the 4th house, the person will be fond of his own wife (as she would be adding to the domestic happiness), but if it is badly placed or afflicted, the person will be fond of others’ wives and/or other women or try to find domestic happiness elsewhere than their marriage.

And as usual, Moon in this house will enable the native to enjoy vehicles and conveyances as well as a nice residence with a loving partner – this is pretty much a very good placement for Moon overall.
